Rebuilding Ukraine: How Citizens Can Influence Government Decisions

Rebuilding Ukraine: How Citizens Can Influence Government Decisions

22 November 2023

The full-scale war has demolished thousands of homes, schools, hospitals, and other objects of infrastructure. It ruined our historical and cultural heritage. While the war continues, we need to reconstruct our country now. Many Ukrainians are ready to actively contribute to this endeavour. After all, revitalized cities and villages have to be inclusive, welcoming, and safe for all. Furthermore, Ukraine’s recovery and ongoing progress should align with the Lugano principles, highlighting reforms, transparency, equality, decentralization, consistent collaboration with Western partners, and the eradication of corruption in law enforcement and the judiciary.

What hinders citizens from influencing government decisions and enhancing community well-being today? What existing tools in Ukrainian legislation can empower citizens to shape decisions? How can we ensure the central government hears the grassroots needs and fosters effective communication with local leaders?

Join us on November 30, 1:30 pm, in Uzhhorod, where Oleksandr Solontai (Director of Practical Policy Programs at the Institute for Political Education) and Vitalii Selyk (Director of Brave Foundation and co-founder of Brave to Rebuild volunteer initiative) will delve into citizen participation tools.

The event will take place at 26 Kapitulna St., Uzhhorod, UzhNU Law Faculty.

The discussion will be moderated by Iryna Breza, a journalist.

Organized within the 20th Travelling International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival Docudays UA, the event is part of the human rights program RIGHTS NOW! in collaboration with the NGO Carpathian Human Rights Agency Vested.
