The 21st Travelling Docudays UA in Poltava Region: digest of events

Lots of documentary films, discussions dedicated to historical memory, reflections on the experience of war, restoration, and mutual support, as well as lectures, trainings, and workshops. Dear friends from Poltava region, the 21st Travelling Docudays UA is bringing all of this to you! Together with our two regional partners, we have prepared two festival weeks in the region. This digest will tell you about every festival day: 

 

November 10, 1 PM

Kremenchuk

Art therapy for everyone, regardless of age or painting skills. Together, we will reflect on the experience of living through the war and try to express our emotions on paper, using various materials and techniques.

 

November 11, 6 PM

The Festival opening in Kremenchuk. Screening of The Kyiv Files by Walter Stokman, followed by a discussion on historical memory, influence of totalitarian past on society, and parallels with our present.


November 12, 12 PM

The Travelling Festival in Karlivka. Screening of the documentary Girl Away From Home (dirs. Simon Lereng Wilmont, Alisa Kovalenko) and discussion dedicated to the search for resources for our healing with Iryna Tseba, psychologist of the Karlivka Center for Professional Development of Pedagogical Workers, media pedagogue, and certified coach. 

 

November 12, 1 PM

Opening of the Travelling Festival in Poltava. Presentation of “Your Book About Cinema” by Olha Birzul, author, journalist, and cultural manager, followed by a conversation about Docudays and importance of documentary cinema as a tool for critical thinking development and its role in formation of personalities of modern youths. 

Screening of the documentary Girl Away From Home (dirs. Simon Lereng Wilmont, Alisa Kovalenko) and discussion with human rights expert, media and civic education coach, chairman of the NGO MART Andriy Kinash.

November 12, 5 PM

Kremenchuk. Screening of the documentary Girl Away From Home (dirs. Simon Lereng Wilmont, Alisa Kovalenko). After screening, we will discuss rights and freedoms in the time of war, as well as fates of Ukrainian children.


November 13, 1 PM

Kremenchuk. Screening and discussion of the film Kiosk by Daniel Stopa. Together with students and professors, we will reflect on gender equality, countering domestic violence, women’s solidarity and mutual support.


November 13, 12 PM

Horishni Plavni. Screening and discussion of short films Nelson the Pig (dir. Anneke de Lind van Wijngaarden) and Boots on the Ground, Hands in the Soil (dir. Karolina Uskakovych). 

 

November 13, 6 PM

Kremenchuk. Screening of the films Girl Away From Home (dirs. Simon Lereng Wilmont, Alisa Kovalenko) and Nelson the Pig (dir. Anneke de Lind van Wijngaarden), followed by a discussion with guests. 

 

November 14, 6 PM

Kremenchuk. Screening of Walter Stokman’s documentary The Kyiv Files and meeting with Eduard Andryushchenko, historian, author, and researcher of the KGB archives from Zaporizhzhya who helped the filmmaker with the materials for his film.

 

November 14, 2 PM

Poltava. Media event on the occasion of the Day of Radio, Television and Communication Workers (November 16) and Students' Day.

Screening of The Kyiv Files by Walter Stokman and discussion with an expert, Honored Journalist of Ukraine Anatoliy Mishin. We will discuss personal information in the modern media space, possibility of media violations of privacy, and the ethics of modern media and popular social networks. The event will be moderated by Andriy Kinash. 

 

November 15, 3 PM

Hadyach. Screening of short documentaries Girl Away From Home (dirs. Simon Lereng Wilmont, Alisa Kovalenko) and Boots on the Ground, Hands in the Soil (dir. Karolina Uskakovych). We will discuss the ways to adapt to the condition of martial law and situations related to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia. 

 

November 15, 3 PM

Kremenchuk. Screening and discussion of the film Boots on the Ground, Hands in the Soil (dir. Karolina Uskakovych).

 

November 15, 6 PM

Kremenchuk. Screening and discussion of the film Kiosk by Daniel Stopa. 

 

November 16, 4 PM

Uspenka (Kirovohrad region). Screening and discussion of the films Boots on the Ground, Hands in the Soil (dir. Karolina Uskakovych) and Girl Away From Home (dirs. Simon Lereng Wilmont, Alisa Kovalenko). 

 

November 17, 12 PM

Kremenchuk. Storytelling workshop and screening of the film Nelson the Pig (dir. Anneke de Lind van Wijngaarden): we propose to consider the film in terms of storytelling, artistic means and possibilities. 

 

November 19, 12 PM

Karlivka. Screening of the film Boots on the Ground, Hands in the Soil (dir. Karolina Uskakovych) and training “My resource for recovery during the war” for educators of the community. The workshop will be conducted by Iryna Tseba, expert on the preservation of psychological and mental health, a psychologist at the Karlivka Center for Professional Development of Pedagogues, member of the Association of Political Psychologists of Ukraine, and specialist working within dealing with psychological trauma. 

 

November 19, 7 PM

Poltava. Family screening of the film Nelson the Pig (dir. Anneke de Lind van Wijngaarden) for the families of art school students. We will reflect and discuss how to be good neighbors, whether it is possible to live without conflicts, and what we need to know or realize in order to resolve issues with a win-win result.

 

November 23, 2 PM

Poltava. Closing of the festival, summarizing the results and challenges. Screening and discussion of the film Kiosk by Daniel Stopa with Andriy Kinash. Several other events, particularly those within the framework of the information campaign “Sexual Abuse on the Internet: How to Protect Children,” will be held for specific audiences and therefore closed to the public.
