22nd Travelling Docudays UA in Lviv Region: Event Digest

Ten powerful and profound films, meetings with their creative teams, expert discussions on Ukrainian documentary filmmaking and our role in building civil society: at the midpoint of this year’s journey, we’re heading to Lviv with a vibrant program!

24 October, 2:00 p.m.

Online press conference of the 22nd Travelling Docudays UA in Lviv Region on ZOOM. A recording of the event will be available on the festival’s regional Facebook page.


1 November, 6:00 p.m.

Festival opening in Lviv. Screening of the documentary film Sanatorium by Irish director Gar O'Rourke. The author of the film, as well as casting director and fixer Serhiy Solodko (online), will join the discussion. 

Location: Lviv Cultural Hub. 


2 November, 6:00 p.m.

Screening of the documentary film My Sweet Child by director Maarten de Schutter from the Netherlands and a meeting with the author of the film (online).

Location: Hnat Khotkevych City Palace of Culture.


4 November, 6:00 p.m.

Screening of the documentary The Last Song from Kabul by directors Kevin Macdonald and Ruhi Hamid, followed by an expert discussion with representatives of women’s organizations. We will talk about the active role of women in human rights initiatives and in building a democratic society.

Location: Lviv Municipal Centre.


6 November, 6:30 p.m.

Special screening of the documentary Witnesses. Captivity Kills by Ukrainian director Tetiana Symon, followed by a discussion with members of the Community of Lviv Families of the Mariupol Garrison, Crimean activists, and human rights advocates. The conversation will focus on what military personnel and civilians face in Russian captivity, as well as on the physical, psychological, and social challenges on the path of their return.

7 November, 6:30 p.m.

Rare Resource: Documentary Film Chronicles by Sofiia Yablonska. A lecture and discussion about her life and contribution to the development of Ukrainian documentary filmmaking, featuring Veronika Homeniuk, head of the Sofiia Yablonska Foundation, and Oksana Bulavina, researcher of Sofiia Yablonska’s life.

Location: Branch 5 of the Lviv Municipal Library (Art Library).


8 November, 6:00 p.m.

Screening of the documentary Fiume o Morte! with Croatian director Igor Bezinovic, followed by a meeting with the filmmaker.

Location: Branch 5 of the Lviv Municipal Library (Art Library).


9 November, 5:00 p.m.

Screening and discussion of the documentary Glass, My Unfulfilled Life by Dutch director Rogier Kappers.

Location: Hnat Khotkevych City Palace of Culture.


11 November, 6:30 p.m.

Ukrainian Documentary Cinema in Times of War and Participatory Democracy, a public discussion with cultural critic and journalist Daria Badior. We will talk about the development of cinema in these challenging times and its role in shaping civil society.

Location: URBAN Library.


12 November, 6:30 p.m.

Festival closing. Screening and discussion of three short documentaries: Where’s My Body Armor? by director Daria Penkova, who will join the conversation online, How I Spent My Summer Holidays? by director Antonio Lukich, and Inside, the Valley Sings by Irish director Nathan Fagan.

Location: Lviv Cultural Hub.
