42% of parents believe that emotional violence against children is acceptable for teaching purposes

(UNICEF report of 2018). In our society, physical and emotional violence is seen as a social norm. Cruel treatment of children is an everyday thing. Cases when children are beaten in the street or humiliated and abused are not rare.


How to protect a child in a situation of violence in the family, and how to explain to Ukrainian parents that using physical force is not the norm? The discussion participants will include representatives of the police, psychologists, representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations.


Speakers:

Yuriy Kitsul, senior inspector on special tasks of the Department of Juvenile Prevention of the National Police, lieutenant colonel of the police. He will speak about the procedure for responding to conflicts and about the current state of affairs.

Aliona Kryvuliak, director of the Department of National Hotlines and Social Help at NGO La Strada–Ukraine. She will speak about psychological and other help in situations of family violence.

Darya Denysenko, NGO Human Rights Center for Community Research, event moderator.
