DOCUDAYS UA Projects

INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL DOCUDAYS UA involves various projects aimed to popularize and develop the documentary cinema, to create active citizen position, and to increase of the level of respect for human rights in Ukraine.

 

In particular, we organize screenings across Ukraine of the most talented and relevant documentaries from all over the world; international tours for Ukrainian documentaries and photo exhibitions; human rights advocacy and educational events on various topics; trainings and pitchings for directors; workshops by professionals; and discussions for everybody who is interested in documentary cinema.

 

TRAVELING HUMAN RIGHTS DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL DOCUDAYS UA

Every year, between October and the end of December, Docudays UA organizes screenings in 23 regions of Ukraine — in cinema halls, houses of culture, universities, schools, youth clubs, bookstores, libraries, penal colonies, detention centres, and educational facilities for future penitentiary system workers. The organizer of the Traveling Festival is the network of Docudays UA’s regional partners, which includes 52 NGOs in 23 regions of Ukraine.

 

DOCU/CLUB

A network of permanent film clubs for media education about human rights at schools, universities, NGOs, Euroclubs, libraries, penal colonies and educational institutions of the penitentiary system across the country. The main objective of the project is to increase the level of legal consciousness and civic activism among high school and university students and Ukrainian youth by providing human rights advocates, pedagogues, civil society leaders, employees of the penitentiary system with media instruments and methodology for developing dialogue and raising awareness about human rights. So far, 208 film clubs have been created.

 

DOCUSPACE

It is the first online cinema in Ukraine, which demonstrates documentary films on human rights. All the movies are about Ukrainians and filmed in Ukraine with the support of different NGOs in association with Docudays UA. The characters are ordinary people who try to change the life in their country for the better. The film collection of the online cinema is constantly updated.

 

DOCU/HIT

The most popular films of the March Docudays UA in Ukrainian film theatres! Every year, the geography of screenings on wide screens is expanding, because the end goal of the project is to develop a full-fledged box office system for documentary cinema in Ukraine.

 

DOCU/PRO

The platform for developing the Ukrainian film industry, establishing connections with international experts of the documentary world, and for creating Ukrainian film projects. In particular, as a part of the festival industry section, we have organized such education and production projects as The Guardian Goes Ukraine, DocWorks UA/UK, WARSCAPE, Youth about Ukraine

 

Every year, the Docudays UA team also publishes the Catalogue of Ukrainian Documentary Films. The English version is distributed at specialized international film markets. The catalogue contains information about finished films and projects in progress, as well as contacts of Ukrainian independent producers, film and TV studios, festivals, distributors.

 

SEE UKRAINE: DOCUDAYS UA ON TOUR

A cultural diplomacy project. The Docudays UA European tour involves screenings of documentary films and photo exhibitions about Ukraine, meetings with filmmakers and artists, as well as discussions with civic activists, human rights advocates and journalists who can help to contextualize the events and situations depicted in the films and provide more information about the events in Ukraine. The project has already visited France, Greece, Italy, Germany and Spain.
