The Travelling Docudays UA Will Teach Its Audience How to Protect Themselves From Online Fraud

08 November 2019

The Travelling Festival is holding digital security workshops in Ukrainian cities on the occasion of the screening of Sakawa by Ben Asamoah. The film Sakawa unmasks the people who send you emails about winning a lottery, the people who hide behind the profiles of women on dating websites. The film introduces us to the everyday life of communities in Ghana that live off the money they earn from online fraud. To achieve their goal, the scammers are willing to do anything, ever resort to black magic and voodoo shamanism.

In the contemporary globalized world, information security becomes relevant for any country and any internet user. This motivated Docudays UA, in addition to screening Sakawa during the Travelling Festival, to organize special information security workshops in Kremenchuk, Uzhgorod and Lviv.

During the digital security workshops, experts will tell the audience about the threats which people face online. For example, phishing attacks against internet users have recently become more frequent. These are attempts to obtain private information by deceitful means, by sending an email that looks like an email from the bank, with requests to confirm the number of your bank account or something like that. The audience will learn how to protect their private data, how to create safe passwords, and how to distinguish a phishing email from a real one. The specialists will explain the mechanisms used by the government and by businesses to collect personal information about the population. They will speak about the hidden threats in these methods and about the ways in which internet users can protect themselves.

Pavel Belousov will hold a digital security workshop in Uzhgorod on November 16, focusing on phishing attacks. Pavlo is a digital security expert and coach at the Digital Security School (DSS380). He writes a blog at the NB website about digital security. He also co-authored the online course Digital Security and Communication Online.

In November 17, the Internet Security: Passwords workshop will be held in Kremenchuk. Its speaker was Andriy Mashtakov, an expert and coach for the DSS380 project, which has been monitoring trends in internet security for over 25 years. He is convinced that digital security information should be available to all internet users regardless of their occupation. At the workshop, the participants learn about the most widespread ways of hacking passwords and about the methods of protection against them. They resolve the dilemma: to remember all the unique passwords for each service or to generate one reliable password. During the training, participants learn about the most common ways to crack passwords and how to protect them. Solve the dilemma: remember all the unique passwords for each service, or generate one, but reliable.
