What Docudays UA Travelling Film Festival Has in Store for Rivne Region
On 19 November, the 16th Travelling International Documentary Film Festival Docudays UA starts in Rivne Region. The open film screenings for anyone who wants to watch them will take place in Rivne Regional Youth Library and the Soniakh Theater between 2 and 5 December. In addition to the regional center, the open programme will also be presented in Ostroh. Two film screenings, on 28 November and 2 December, are scheduled at the National University of Ostroh Academy.
The Festival’s film programme in Rivne Region presents 8 films. These include the film Bellingcat: Truth in a Post-Truth World, which explores the work of an international team of investigative journalists known as Bellingcat. They solve high-profile cases by finding the necessary evidence in the vastness of the Internet, looking for truth among fake news and contradictory facts. The film The Cleaners invites us into the world of online censorship, which the big players like Google, Facebook or Twitter outsource to workers in the Philippines. The investigative film Death by Design uncovers the hidden processes of the electronics industry and proves that even the smallest gadgets have deadly consequences for our environment and health. “In addition to film screenings, as a part of this year’s festival, we will hold lectures for Rivne Region students on the topic of digital development of the state and safe behavior in the contemporary digital world,” says Oleksiy Horetskyi, the Director of the Rivne Regional Branch of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine and the organizer of the Travelling Festival in Rivne Region.
One of the participants of the press conference held to announce the Festival was Oksana Salchuk, the Head of the Central Territorial Department of Justice in Rivne Region. She noted that the expression “government in your smartphone” is no longer an unreasonable expectation. “The Ministry of Justice is already prepared for these innovations. We are currently in the fourth year of this reform. And it’s very good that all government bodies are going to work like that. We see that there is public demand for such services, because it’s convenient,” emphasizes Ms. Salchuk.
“I am glad that we can welcome the Festival in our theater, and not for the first time,” said Oleksiy Tytarenko, the manager of the Soniakh Theater. “It will be interesting for our audience as well. Because this year, we also selected films related to art and artists for our screenings.”
The festival in Rivne Region will take place between 19 November and 16 December. In this period, the organizers are planning to hold at least 15 screenings in education institutions, libraries, creative spaces. You can check out the schedule here.
