What Do Teenagers Hide Behind Closed Doors?
What Do Teenagers Hide Behind Closed Doors?
Zaporizhia Regional Universal Science Library welcomed the guests of the Travelling International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival Docudays UA.
The audience had a chance to watch a film by the Israeli artist and filmmaker Ayelet Albenda. It was a film about growing up, based on video archives. The story takes place in the rooms of six teenagers from across the world, and the materials for the film were shot by them on their own, behind closed doors, and posted on YouTube. They are growing up and changing before our eyes, becoming the people they dreamt to be.
Why do teenagers film their video blogs? What do they expect from the audience? What is the role of their parents’ words in shaping their opinions of themselves? The audience tried to answer these questions during the discussion.
The viewers talked a lot: about tolerant treatment of people, about the importance of support and understanding from parents and peers. They spoke about respect for the lives of others and the right to decide your own fate independently. They emphasized responsibility for advice and for devaluing others.
They concluded that we need to refrain from judging the actions of others. From the outside, you can only see the tip of the iceberg of a person’s life. Nobody can experience and feel what another person experiences, and that is what causes their actions.
During the event, the participants of Success League presented their developments for the Anti-Bullying project. They spoke about their useful class hours at Zaporizhia schools. They also demonstrated creative posters based on ambiguous meanings of words. The posters call us to think about considerate treatment of everyone.
