The Discussion on Making a Space for Support and Education for the Elderly Followed the Screening of the Mole Agent in Uzhgorod
On 22 November, together with students of the University of the Third Age, students, teachers, and leaders of the student government of Uzhgorod discussed the film The Mole Agent by American director Maite Alberdi.
The event was held in a hybrid format thanks to the moderation of Mariia Mendzhul and Mariia Symkovych: it took place online in ZOOM and offline at the University of Third Age, which provides free education for retirees.
Elderly people were especially interested in the film. The audience highlighted the main theme of the film — the responsibility of the state and relatives toward the elderly. Through different plot lines, the film shows the attitude of the state and children toward their parents: on the one hand, there are elderly abandoned by children, and on the other, the protagonist's daughter does not want to let her father, a private investigator, stay in a retirement home even for 3 months.
In a dialogue between generations, the audience concluded that everything must be done to ensure that our relatives are not alone. Participants of the discussion also noted the importance of supporting older people, creating an environment for their self-realization, learning and sharing experiences, expanding the range of communication and interests.
