The discussion after the film Swatted in Rivne Region
A lively discussion followed the screening of Swatted by Ismail Geoffroy Shanduti's with students of the eighth grade of the Demidov Lyceum in Rivne Region. Svitlana Kukharuk, the Coordinator of the Travelling Docudays UA in Rivne Region, highlighted some of the thoughts that were expressed during the discussion.
In the film online players describe their struggles with ‘swatting’, a life-threatening cyber-harassment phenomenon that looms over them whenever they play. The events take shape through YouTube videos and wireframe images from a video game. This topic is relevant because the poll before the screening showed that almost all participants have played online games at least once, and also like to watch streamers and letsplays on YouTube.
After the screening the invited expert, a lawyer at the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Olha Osinska spoke about the responsible attitude to information, the importance of digital hygiene and gave students some tips on how to behave on Instagram and TikTok:
"When you travel somewhere abroad or in another city, you should not post photos or videos on social networks with the location. Intruders can understand that you have no one in your home right now, and take advantage of it. So it is better to make publications from vacation after returning home."
Olha Osinska also advised several online courses and resources on digital education:
Student Anastasia shared her impressions of the film:
"I liked the film. It is quite unusual and difficult to understand but raises really important topics."
