Last Song From Kabul tells the riveting, heroic story of young orphaned girls whose music school was closed after the Taliban took over Afghanistan, as they escape to Portugal to try and rebuild their fractured lives and begin to play music again.

Kevin Macdonald

Kevin Macdonald is an Oscar-winning feature and documentary film director.

His films include One Day in September, a documentary about the 1972 murder of 11 Israeli athletes that won him the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature; climbing documentary Touching the Void; historical drama The Last King of Scotland, which won Forest Whitaker the Academy Award for Best Actor, and acclaimed documentaries on artists Whitney Houston and Bob Marley.

In 2010, Kevin, with Executive Producer Ridley Scott, directed the crowd-sourced documentary feature Life in a Day. A partnership between YouTube, RSA Films, and LG Electronics, Life in a Day told the story of one ordinary day and included scenes selected from over 80,000 submissions. Kevin and Ridley revisited the project for Life in a Day 2020, with the film premiering on YouTube in February 2021.Kevin has directed two projects for release early 2021: the feature documentary Bruno v Tyson, which charts the sensational highs and lows of two of the world’s most iconic black sportsmen, and the Guantanamo Bay legal drama The Mauritanian, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Jodie Foster, and Tahar Rahim.

Ruhi Hamid

Ruhi Hamid was born in Tanzania and has an Asian background. Ruhi has made several award-winning documentaries for the BBC, Channel 4 and Al Jazeera International in the last 18 years. Ruhi has a talent for bringing out the best in people to produce intimate, enjoyable, and insightful films. Her enthusiasm and good interpersonal skills motivate people to achieve their best. A graduate of the Royal College of Art and a prolific Graphic Designer, Ruhi started her producing and directing career with the groundbreaking BBC Community Programmes Unit making films for the BAFTA award-winning series Video Diaries and Video Nation empowering ordinary people to tell their stories in their own words — this was way before the genre of 'reality' TV became the norm. Ruhi left the BBC to go freelance in May 2000. Her debut as a freelancer was the Channel 4 three-part series Lahore Law, in which she gained unprecedented access to the Pakistani criminal courts.
She believes that the most interesting place to be is behind the camera. Her documentaries are always character-driven and have strong narratives
