Declaration of Ethical Principles of All-Ukrainian Network of regional partners of the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival

This document was developed by a working group of NGO Docudays and representatives of regional partner organizations of the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival and was approved in 2013 by participants of the workshop “Organization and holding the Travelling Human Rights Documentary Film Festival Docudays UA” which took place between 27 and 29 September in Kyiv. At the same time, the participants announced the establishment of the All-Ukrainian Network of regional partners of the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival (hereinafter referred to as the Network of Docudays UA's partners).

 

We, the participants of the regional coordinators meeting, who are representatives of the regional partner organizations of the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival which was held between 27 and 28 March 2021 in Kyiv, we adopt additions to the document and approve in the new edition.

 

We proclaim this Declaration of Ethical Principles of the Network of regional partners of the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival and declare our intention to be guided by it in our daily activities.

 

We agree that members of the Network of Docudays UA's regional partners may include non-governmental organizations, charitable organizations, educational and cultural institutions, creative unions, and professional creative workers who cooperate with the NGO Docudays based on written agreements.

 

An important condition for concluding cooperation agreements is the recognition of the Declaration of Ethical Principles of the

Network of regional partners of the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival by its participants.

 

We share and acknowledge the mission, purpose, and vision of the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival. Our mission is to create opportunities for every person in Ukraine to watch talented and relevant human rights documentary films from all over the world. We shape an active civic position and respect for human dignity. We support the development of the Ukrainian film industry.

Our objective is to facilitate the respect for and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, to establish an understanding of human dignity as the highest value, to raise the level of civil activity in Ukraine, to promote the development of documentary filmmaking.

Our vision is to create a society of free people.

 

We also declare our desire to establish a partnership with the Organizers of the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival: Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, NGO Docudays, Charity Organization “Charity and Health Fund”, Centre for Contemporary Information Technology and Visual Arts following the ethical principles proclaimed in this Declaration.

 

To achieve this goal, objective, and vision, the Network of Docudays UA's regional partners conducts the Travelling Human Rights Documentary Film Festival Docudays UA, develops and implements informational and educational programmes; supports public human rights initiatives; cooperates with Ukrainian and international public associations, charitable organizations, Docudays UA Human Rights Media Education Film Clubs Network, public authorities, local governments, educational and cultural institutions, creative unions, etc., disseminates the experience of partner documentary film festivals in other countries.

 

PREAMBLE

 

We,  the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival:

recognizing the values ​​of human dignity, freedom, universality of human rights, humane society, democratic state of law, cultural heritage, high art, and respect for nature as the foundation of human life; affirming our commitment to the ideals and principles proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; trying to make our work more understandable to society, more conscious, responsible and effective we PROCLAIM this Declaration of Ethical Principles of All-Ukrainian Network of regional partners of the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival and declare our intention to be guided by it in our daily work. We voluntarily agree that the main ethical principles of the All-Ukrainian Network of regional partners of the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival are:

  • compliance of our actions with the declared purpose, objective and vision, values ​​and ethical principles,
  • independence and impartiality,
  • responsibility,
  • active human rights and civil position,
  • non-discrimination,
  • non-violence,
  • openness and transparency,
  • tolerance,
  • solidarity and friendly cooperation,
  • efficient and economical use of resources.

 

1. THE PRINCIPLE OF COMPLIANCE OF OUR ACTIONS WITH THE DECLARED PURPOSE, OBJECTIVE AND VISION, VALUES, AND ETHICAL PRINCIPLES


1.1 The Network of Docudays UA's partners operates following the purpose, objective, and vision of the Docudays UA Festival, as well as under the jointly defined worldview values ​​and ethical principles proclaimed in this Declaration.

 

2. THE PRINCIPLE OF INDEPENDENCE AND IMPARTIALITY

 

2.1. Interacting with government, commercial entities, the media, educational institutions, other public associations, and charitable organizations (local, national, and foreign), the Network of Docudays UA's partners and its members avoid any dependence especially when it threats human rights, fundamental freedoms, declared mission, objective and vision, values ​​and ethical principles of the Network of Regional Partners of the Docudays UA.

 

2.2. The Network of Docudays UA's partners is independent of stereotypes of public opinion, in particular when they contradict the values ​​declared by it.

 

2.3. the Network of Docudays UA's partners is not a supporter of and cannot support in any way any political party, political bloc, political or state leader, religious body, or organization. Political and religious preferences are the personal business of members of the Network of Regional Partners of the Docudays UA.

 

3. THE PRINCIPLE OF RESPONSIBILITY


3.1. The Network of Docudays UA's partners and its members are aware of the importance of a responsible attitude to their duties, strive to fulfill their mutual obligations, adhere to written and oral agreements, in particular, concluded with the NGO Docudays.

 

3.2. The Network of Regional Partners of the Docudays UA and its members operate within their competence, constantly striving for self-improvement and achieving the highest standards of professionalism.

 

4. PRINCIPLE OF ACTIVE CIVIL AND HUMAN RIGHTS POSITION

 

4.1. The Network of Docudays UA's partners and its members try to defend an active civil and human rights position in their work.

 

5. PRINCIPLE OF EQUALITY AND NON-DISCRIMINATION

 

5.1. the Network of Docudays UA's partners and its members respect human rights and fundamental freedoms regardless of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity, citizenship, ethnic or social origin, property or another status, position, gender and occupation, place of residence, language, religion, political and other beliefs.

 

6. PRINCIPLE OF NON-VIOLENCE


6.1. the Network of Docudays UA's partners and its members do not promote or use violence in their activities.

 

7. THE PRINCIPLE OF OPENNESS AND TRANSPARENCY

 

7.1. Information about the mission, objective and vision, values, goals, principles, results of the work of the Network of Docudays UA's partners and its members are open to the public.

 

7.2. the Network of Docudays UA's partners is open for cooperation and accession of representatives of other public and charitable organizations, creative unions, and individuals who share its purpose and values, as well as is ready to adhere to these ethical principles.

 

8. PRINCIPLE OF TOLERANCE


8.1. the Network of Docudays UA's partners and its members respect the differences in the mindset of the partners.

 

8.2. The Network of Regional Partners of the Docudays UA and its members avoid compromising partners, other organizations, and their colleagues.

 

8.3. Members of the Network of Docudays UA's partners always provide complete information about all festival representatives in the region and common achievements in publications, radio and TV interviews, and other public speeches.

 

9. PRINCIPLE OF SOLIDARITY AND FRIENDLY PARTNERSHIP

 

9.1. Members of the Network of Docudays UA's partners act in a spirit of solidarity and friendly partnership. Each member of the Network of Docudays UA's partners works to strengthen its positive reputation, the reputation of colleagues, and the Festival as a whole to achieve the goal, objective, and vision of the Docudays UA Festival.

 

9.2. Members of the Network of Docudays UA's partners seek to cooperate based on trust, respect, and mutual assistance.

 

9.3. In the event of a conflict between members of the Network of Docudays UA's partners, they are guided by the ethical principles set out in this Declaration and seek to resolve conflicts through dialogue and compromise within the Network so as not to damage its reputation.

 

10. PRINCIPLE OF RESOURCES EFFICIENCY AND SAVING


10.1. the Network of Docudays UA's partners and its members try to use financial, material, human, natural resources as efficiently and sparingly as possible, directing them mainly to the realization of the objective and goal.

 

Issues of compliance with the ethical principles of the Network of Docudays UA's regional partners are considered by its working meetings, which are regularly held with the participation of the management of the NGO Docudays and relevant departments.
