Roundtable on the issues of gender-based violence
The problem of gender-based domestic violence remains one of the most urgent problems in Ukraine. The situation has gotten considerably worse as the quarantine measures started. In the 9 months of 2020, law enforcement agencies have registered over 150,000 statements and reports about domestic violence.
What is the situation in Volyn? Which institutions are responsible for tackling domestic violence? Where does one go if they become a target or a witness of violence? How do you avoid tolerating violence by blaming the victim? Which mechanisms are the most effective today, and how can government representatives, police, civil society and the media synchronize their actions in preventing gender-based and domestic violence?
This will be discussed at the “online roundtable” which opens the 17th Travelling Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival in Volyn. The roundtable will be a part of the international 16 Days Against Violence action.
