What happens when home is on the other side of the screen?

Event

Meeting with the heroes

Following a screening of the documentary Homecoming by directors Roman Khimey and Yarema Malashchuk, there will be a meet-and-greet with the film’s protagonist, Yaroslav Adamov, and a discussion moderated by a host.

The film was shot in Zaporizhzhia, so the conversation will be particularly relevant to the local audience. Together with Yaroslav Adamov, we’ll discuss whether it’s possible to maintain a connection to home from a distance, what “returning” means to each of us, and whether returning is always a physical act. We’ll also focus on Zaporizhzhia as a city to which people return despite the war and danger.

Yaroslav will share his own experience of forced displacement, life far from his hometown, and his decision to return to Zaporizhzhia. If the security situation prevents us from holding an in-person event, the conversation with Yaroslav will take place online. Regardless of the format, participants will have the opportunity to speak directly with the protagonist of the film about home, homecoming, and the human right to maintain a connection with the place one calls home.

Speaker: Yaroslav Adamov, protagonist of the Homecoming;

Moderator: Larysa Golovko, human rights trainer.
