Prior to the screening of the documentary “The Promise,” there will be a lecture by Daryna Pidhirna on the topics of decolonization and participatory democracy.

The discussion will focus on how the colonial legacy influences contemporary societies, how to rethink historical narratives, and why it is important to give a voice back to communities whose experiences and perspectives have long been overlooked. The film’s international context will serve as a starting point for reflecting on decolonization processes in Ukraine, taking a critical look at the imperial legacy, and examining the role of citizens in shaping their own future.

Expert: Daryna Pidhirna, an international lawyer and translator of English and French.
