Decolonizing Memory: A Tour of the “Territory of Terror” Museum with Oksana Darmoriz
How should we make sense of a complex historical legacy?
The tour of the “Territory of Terror” museum is a continuation of the conversation about decolonization that we will begin on October 30 during a screening of the documentary “Celtic Utopia” by director Lars Loven. While the film invites us to examine decolonization through the lens of Ireland’s experience, its historical memory, and its search for national identity, the tour of the “Territory of Terror” museum will bring this conversation into a Ukrainian context.
Together with Oksana Darmoriz, participants will explore how totalitarian regimes influenced collective memory, how to make sense of a complex historical legacy, and how to move beyond imperialist perspectives on the past. This is an opportunity to continue the dialogue on how the historical experiences of different peoples help us better understand our own history and the processes of decolonization in contemporary Ukraine.
Expert: Oksana Darmoriz, philosopher, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, associate professor in the Department of Theory and History of Culture at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, and deputy director for research and education at the “Territory of Terror” Museum.
